Samara State Medical University (SamSMU) is a modern university with a  century-old history. We train personnel for practical healthcare, develop science and develop advanced technologies.

Today, SamSMU is one of the largest and most authoritative universities in Russia and one of the best medical universities in our country.

SamSMU includes 8 institutes, more than 15 specialized diagnostic and therapeutic centers, 14 departments and 90 chairs. The teaching staff consists of 622 members, 14 of which are academicians and corresponding member of different academies, 100 professors and PhDs, 386 professor assistants.

Since 1991 Samara State Medical University began the training of general practitioners, pharmacists, trainees and post-graduate research students from Eastern countries, Asia, Africa and Latin America on the base of International Students Department. Training is based on contract system.

Approximately 1000 international students graduated from our University. Our graduates have a high level of theoretical and practical professional knowledge. The Diploma of our University is known in over 50 countries.

Today number of our students is more then 6000, nine hundred of them are international

Samara (Russian: Samara, IPA: [sɐˈmarə]), known from 1935 to 1991 as  Kuybyshev (Kuibyshev; IPA: [ˈkujbɨʂɨf]), is the largest city and administrative center of Samara Oblast in Russia. The city is located at the confluence of the Volga and the Samara rivers, with a population of over 1.14 million residents, up to 1.22 million residents in the urban agglomeration, not including Novokuybyshevsk, which is not conurbated. The city covers an area of ​​541,382 square kilometers (209,029 sq mi), and is the eighth-largest city in Russia and tenth agglomeration, the third-most populous city on the Volga, as well as the Volga Federal District.

Formerly a closed city, Samara is now a large and important social, political, economic, industrial, and cultural center in Russia and hosted the European Union-Russia Summit in May 2007 and some of the World Cup Championship games in 2018. It has a continental climate characterized by hot summers and cold winters. The life of Samara's citizens has always been intrinsically linked to the Volga River, which has not only served as the main commercial thoroughfare of Russia throughout several centuries, but also has great visual appeal. Samara's riverfront is one of the main recreation sites for both local citizens and tourists.
