Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (formerly known as Russian State Medical University or RSMU) is a medical higher education institution in Moscow, Russia founded in 1906. It is fully accredited and recognized by Russia's Ministry of Education and Science and is under the authority of the Ministry of Health and Social Development.[1] It was named after Russian surgeon and pedagogue N.I. Pirogov (1810-1888).[2][better source needed] In 2024 US News & World Report ranked it #1,563 in the world

Faculty of General Medicine
Faculty of General Medicine of the Pirogov Medical University is the oldest and the largest at the University.
This is the most popular faculty among applicants every year. After 6 years of education students get a medical degree on "General medicine" specialty.
In the first courses students study basic subjects necessary for future practice: biology, physics, chemistry, anatomy, histology, as well as Latin and foreign languages (English, French, German), philosophy, economic theory, physical education, etc. Then they study basic branches of sciences, such as pathological anatomy, pathological physiology, pharmacology, general surgery, preliminary study of internal diseases and many other difficult clinical and preclinical disciplines. Summer exams in the third course are considered to be the most difficult.
Clinical thinking, expertise and professional skills are established in senior courses, when students start practicing in hospitals and learn more about medical staff duties. Faculty of General Medicine take an active part in education of residence providing theory and practical knowledge in more than 50 medical specialties.
In 2024 US News & World Report ranked it # 1,563 in the world. tying with Siberian Federal University.[3] In 2014, the Russian rating agency "Expert RA" included it in its list of rated universities of higher educational of the Commonwealth of Independent States, assigning it a rating of
