About

Northern State Medical University is a Russian higher education institution . It was founded in 1932 by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars on the formation of the Arkhangelsk State Medical Institute as a base for training personnel for healthcare in the European North of Russia.

In 1935, the Department of Physical Culture and Medical Rehabilitation was created at the Altai State Medical Institute, headed by Professor G. I. Krasnoselsky .

 

In 1994, ASMI was transformed into the Arkhangelsk State Medical Academy (ASMA); in 2000, ASMA, in turn, became the Northern State Medical University (NSMU).

 

From 1993 to 2012 , the rector of SSMU was professor and academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Pavel Ivanovich Sidorov .

Since April 17, 2014, the rector of SSMU is Doctor of Medical Sciences , Professor Lyubov Nikolaevna Gorbatova .

Educational activities at the university are carried out in 5 specialties of secondary and 18 specialties of higher professional education, postgraduate education programs (graduate school - 35, internship - 28, residency - 66 specialties); programs of additional professional education (professional retraining and advanced training in the profile of the university's OOP). The total number of faculties is 11; the total number of departments is 40.
