In 1966, by order of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation dated 4.03.66 No. 3131-4054 and by order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Russian Federation dated 25.03.66, a medical faculty was opened at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University with one specialty, “General Medicine,” which provided for the training of general practitioners.

 

Since September 1, 1966, 100 young men and women have begun systematic studies at the Faculty of Medicine.

 

At that time there were only two departments: normal anatomy and biology. The teaching of the block of chemical disciplines, physics, foreign languages, social and humanitarian disciplines was carried out by the corresponding departments of the university. By that time, the university had a good base for training medical students in general theoretical disciplines, and there were also conditions for physical education and sports. In 1968, a separate three-story building was allocated for the theoretical and medical-biological departments.

 

During the first five years, the departments of biology and histology, normal and pathological anatomy, normal and pathological physiology, microbiology were opened, and in 1977 the faculty already had 9 departments. To implement the educational process and organize research work, professors from other large medical higher educational institutions were invited: Noskov N.M., Dombrovskaya E.A., Predtechensky S.A., Romensky O.Yu., Gabrilovich I.M., Lapin M.D., Dubiley V.V., Kulchinsky P.E. - scientists who had extensive experience in higher medical school, who played a positive role in the formation of the medical faculty.

 

In 1966, by Order of the Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation No. 31-4054 of 4.03.66 and by order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the

Russian Federation of 25.03.66, a Medicine academy with one specialty “Medical Care” (040100) was opened at Kabardino-Balkarian State University, which provided for the training of general practitioners. Since September 1, 1966, 100 boys and girls have started systematic studies at the Medicine Academy.

By that time, the university had a good foundation to teach medical students in general theoretical disciplines, as well as conditions for physical culture and sports. In 1968, a separate three-story building was allocated for theoretical and biomedical departments.

In 1972, the Faculty of Medicine graduated its first class: 115 graduates received medical degrees.

Over 55 years (1966–2021), the faculty has trained over 7,000 doctors in the specialties of General Medicine, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, and Dentistry (from 1993 to 2018), who successfully work in our republic, in many regions of the Russian Federation, and also abroad.

 

Currently, they are highly qualified specialists, head hospital departments, manage medical and preventive institutions (hospitals, dispensaries, clinics). In different years, graduates of the faculty headed the Ministry of Health of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic: Kardanov Akhmed Barazbievich, Bitsuev Vadim Georgievich, Amshokova Fatimat Karalbievna, Kantsaliev Anatoly Leonovich, Shetova Irma Mukhamedovna, Khubiev Marat Bashirovich, Kalibatov Rustam Mikhailovich.

 

Several generations of future doctors were fortunate to learn the art of healing from legendary Teachers who made a significant contribution to the development of medicine in the republic and the education of young personnel.

2 honorary workers of the Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation,

20 healthcare excellence students.

The main freelance specialists of the Ministry of Health of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and the Chairmen of regional branches of medical associations and societies are employees of the Medical Academy.
