It was founded in 1932 as the Dagestan State Medical Institute and initially included only one medical faculty.

 

In the first years, famous scientists, professors O.A. Bairashevsky, M.S. Dobrokhotov, A.V. Rossov, V.A. Chudnosovetov, F.R. Borodulin, A.G. Podvarko, G.P. Rudnev and others worked at the university.

 

A graduate of 1937 is Alexander Fedorovich Serenko.

 

In 1964, the evening department of the medical faculty was opened, in 1965 - the dental faculty, in 1969 - the pediatric faculty, in 1974 - the preparatory department, in 1983 - the faculty for advanced training of doctors, in 1986 - the preparatory faculty for foreign citizens, in 1987 - the faculty for work with foreign citizens, in 1991 - the Central Research Laboratory, in 1994 a specialized Council for the protection of doctoral and candidate dissertations was formed [ 2 ] .

 

In 1976, the institute became a first-category university. In 1982, the university was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples [ 3 ] .

 

In 1995 it received the status of an academy, and in 2016 – a university.

 

In total, more than 27 thousand doctors have graduated [ 4 ] .

 

There are over 700 teachers at DSMU, including academicians of the Moscow Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Dagestan, the Gadzhimirzaev brothers, Gadzhimurad and Gadzhimirza (he died in 2011), academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Dagestan Shamil Omarov , 116 doctors of science and 66 professors, 418 candidates of science and 179 associate professors
