Watch for accreditation by the World Health Organization (WHO) and, if you are practicing in India, the Medical Council of India (MCI) - now the National Medical Commission (NMC). This is extremely important! You don't want to invest years of learning to discover that your degree isn't recognized.

 

•  English-Friendly? If you find it difficult to speak Russian, find out if the MBBS course is taught entirely in English. Look at the course detail and see what current students have to say.

 

•  Good Teachers, Good Stuff: Get to know about the lecturers, the laboratory facilities, the libraries, and the practice hospitals that they use. Are they new and renovated?

 

•  Student-Teacher Ratio: Do they keep class sizes small enough so that you can actually receive assistance when you need it?

 

•  Where Is It, and How Much Does It Cost to Live There?: Consider the city's weather, culture, and cost of living. Russia does get chilly!

 

•  Do They Support International Students?: Look for institutions that offer visa support, accommodation services, and language support. They will make life much easier for you.

 

•  What's the Street Talk?: Look at university rankings (but not exclusively). They can give a rough idea of the quality of the school.

Step 2: Check if You Even Qualify (Seriously, Do This!)
