Thinking of Med School in Russia? A Breakdown of Maikop State Technological University

 

Alright, so you're dead set on becoming a doctor and you're open to studying abroad – awesome! Seriously, it's such a big decision and there are a million possibilities out there, which gets overwhelming pretty fast, right? So, I thought I'd provide some input on the Medical Institute at Maikop State Technological University (MSTU) in Russia, in case it's useful to others.

 

I know, it might not be top of mind when you think of medical school, but believe me, it's worth putting on your radar. I looked into it myself, and here's what I think. 

 

First, the Curriculum

 

You're actually going to learn stuff. It's not pages and pages of useless information that no one uses. You'll see the things you learn about happening right in front of your eyes! How cool is that?

 

It's also great to know that I've seen a lot of institutions push aside basic sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, etc) so that students can simply focus on the higher levels. That's completely missing the point. MSTU's great because you'll get the proper level to actually build upon. Then you get to move into clinical sciences! It's so cool!

 

It's what you need to know. That's comforting to me.

 

Affordability

 

Come on, let's not beat around the bush. Medical school is expensive! But compared to universities in Western Europe and the US? Most of what I've looked into is going to leave you for broke. So that's why MSTU's tuition fee caught my eye. It's From 3,300 USD. That's not pocket change, but it makes the dream of medical school appear a bit more within grasp, you know? I also understand that the daily costs of food and rent in the city are manageable as well. I believe it could be a good choice for someone on a budget.

 

How to Get Into the Program

 

One of my greatest concerns that I always ask myself is "am I even going to get accepted" because many of the institutions out there are so highly competitive, that only a select few have a chance. So, I looked into the Admissions Process.

 

So really they are keen to know if you did well at High School, particularly if you are good at Science. I reckon that's a fair attitude, don't you?
