Is Mari state university your destination for MBBS?

You're thinking of becoming a physician, and, sure, it's A BIG DEAL. Being at the right school is getting the right co-pilot for the dream. MSU always seems to become part of the equation, and you can't help but wonder if it really is where you're supposed to be.

•  NMC Thing: Come on, straight talk, it's a big deal if you're an Indian student. MSU has recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC). It's not paper; it's a ticket back home. It just ensures you can even take the exam to be a practicing doctor in India after you finish school. No kidding, don't even consider a school not recognized by it if you plan to practice in India.

OK, BUT WHAT IS THE CATCH (BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS A CATCH)?

 

MSU is not perfect. Let's be realistic:

 

• Russian 101 (Required): You're studying English, but you're in Russia. Try to navigate everyday life or, heaven forbid, work with patients when you don't know a little bit of Russian. Take some Russian. Seriously.

• Culture Shock Exists: Russia isn't Kansas. Be prepared for various customs, various ways of doing things, and possibly a little bit of culture shock. Take it in stride, but prepare for it.

•  Prepare for Winter: Russian winters are no laughing matter. Bring the warmest clothing you can find, and be prepared for some fairly cold weather.

• Don't Expect the Ritz: MSU is a decent school, but it isn't the fanciest school you will ever lay eyes on. The buildings are older than what you're used to.

•  Are you actually interested in practicing in India? If so, then NMC recognition is HUGE.
