How to Book Flight Tickets for Russia: Tips for First-Time Flyers.

Okay, so you're heading off to Russia for your MBBS – fantastic! It might come across as a bit daunting, especially if it's your first time booking an overseas flight, but it doesn't have to be.  Let's cover it step by step:

 

1. Planning Your Great Escape:

 

Before you even proceed to a travel website, do some research:

 

•   Where are you flying FROM?: Find out which airport is closest and easiest to get from your home. Sometimes flying from a slightly bigger city in the region can be more affordable.

•   Where are you flying TO?:  This varies with your university.  Moscow and St. Petersburg are giant ones, but there are others with medical schools as well.  Know the airport you will be flying to.

•   When's the Best Time to Book?: 2-3 months' booking ahead is usually best to get favorable prices and the best availability.  Every so often, there are last-minute deals too.  Keep an eye out with price comparison sites.

•   How Much Can You Spend?:  Decide on your budget.  Remember to include not just the ticket, but also airport transfers and luggage fees.

 

 

2.  Finding Your Flight (and the Best Price):

 

There are many websites to book flights. Here's the catch:

 

•   Travel Agents (Online): Sites like MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, Cleartrip, Expedia, Skyscanner, and even Google Flights are ideal for comparing prices of different airlines at one time.  They typically have offers and discounts.

•   Booking Directly with Airlines: Sometimes, booking directly with the airline will give you greater flexibility with your booking and could offer improved customer service.

3. Understanding the Flight Fine Print:

•   Get That Confirmation: When you reserve, you'll get a confirmation email or a booking reference number. Keep it!

•   Online Check-in: Most airlines enable you to check in online 24 hours before you fly. It saves time at the airport and lets you pick your seat.

 

5.  After You Book – The Important Bits:

 

•   Visa:  Get your student visa well ahead of when you fly.  Don't leave it to the last minute!

•   Passport Validity: Make sure your passport has a validity of at least six months from your planned return date.

•   Money: Exchange some Indian rupees to Russian rubles before you leave to cover your initial expenses. Also, let your bank know that you're traveling to avoid card problems.
