•  Language Barrier: You might need help with translations unless you are Russian speaker fluent.

•  Advance Payments and Deposits: Landlords typically take an advance payment (you get this when you are leaving) and, in some cases, advance rent. Read the agreement very carefully.

•  Contracts: Carefully read the rental contract. Ensure you comprehend what you are signing, i.e., payment terms, who will do repairs, how notice is given in case you need to vacate, etc.

•  Seek Help if You Need It: Should you be having trouble with a contract or have any questions explained legally, seek help from your university or a lawyer acquainted with Russian law. 

 

Observations Regarding Culture:

 

•  Landlord Relationships: Try to get along with your landlord. It just makes things simpler.

•  Local Customs: Learn local customs about renting a bit. Familiarity with the local customs will avoid confusion.
